Auckland teenager Georgia Williams will join Italian professional cycling team BePink next month after signing a one-year deal.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic summer on the bike, highlighted by winning the New Zealand Criterium Championships in November and more recently, claiming second in the road race at the Elite Road National Championships in Christchurch on Saturday.
Williams will spend about seven months with the Milan-based team, having selected their offer over several other interested teams from around the world, with the help of her coach Karl Murray.
"Karl sent out my CV to a few overseas teams and we had a few responses but the Italian team were by far the best team so we decided to go with them,'' said Williams.
"Lots of the girls are quite a bit older than me and are really experienced so I'll be able to learn off them which will be good and I'll be doing all the top UCI races in Europe as well.
