Paddy Walker put her hand up for senior New Zealand track cycling selection with a controlling victory in the women's 20km points race at the national championships at Mosgiel yesterday.
The Auckland 18-year-old edged out Katherine Sell (Wanganui) by five points after the pair and bronze medallist Dale Tye broke away from the field in the middle laps of the race and shared all the major points on offer for several of the intermediate sprints.
Sell heads for the World Championships in LA later this month.
Walker, who competed at the Junior World Championships last year, is in her first season in senior competition. Sell and Joanne Kiesanowski are slated to ride the scratch and points race at the worlds but no decision will be made until a couple of days before the competition.
In other highlights on the final day, Dave Cresswell (Canterbury) added to his kilometre time trial gold with a hard fought victory over Justin Grace in the men's Keirin while as expected, Katri Laike (Otago) won the women's Keirin.
