KEY POINTS:
Two New Zealand records were broken within hours of the cycling track nationals starting in Invercargill today.
At the indoor ILT Velodrome, women's sprinter Fiona Carswell clocked 11.734 seconds to beat her own record of 11.990secs, set in Wanganui in 2002.
In the men's sprint, Otago's Nathan Seddon clocked 10.468secs to beat Anthony Peden's old record of 10.547secs, also set in Wanganui in 2002.
The two events were qualifying rounds heading into the sprint finals which take place tonight.
With the nationals being held indoors for the first time, more records are expected to be set throughout the five-day competition.
