New Zealand have named a six-strong cycling team to compete in the world junior road championships in Mexico from August 9-12.
The team are James Williamson (Alexandra), Tom David (Auckland), James Dobson (Palmerston North), Alex Cull (Auckland), Shane Archbold (Timaru) and Rachel Mercer (Raumati South).
Williamson, David and Dobson will race in the Canadian Tour de l'Abitibi from July 16-22 as part of their world championships build-up.
They will be joined by Josh Brown (Palmerston North), Simon Honour and Wade Mangham (both Rotorua) for the tour.
Mercer will compete at various events in Europe as part of her build-up while Archbold and Cull will train with the New Zealand junior track team.
The junior track world championships will be held prior to the road championships, also in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Archbold left last week with Lauren Ellis, also from Timaru, for a 12-week training scholarship at the World Cycling Centre in Switzerland.
Ellis and Archbold, silver medallists last year, will race in the world junior track championships.
