KEY POINTS:
Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador is poised to win the Giro d'Italia after holding on to the race leader's pink jersey during the 232km final mountain stage from Rovetta to Tirano yesterday.
The 25-year-old Contador leads Italy's Riccardo Ricco by only four seconds but is likely to open a comfortable winning margin in tomorrow's 28.5km individual time trial to Milan.
Contador gained one minute 56 seconds on Ricco in the first individual time trial to Urbino and is expected to gain a similar amount of time today.
Italy's Emanuele Sella of the CSF Group team won the stage to Tirano.
