New Zealand got off to a slow start at the world junior track cycling championships in Ghent, Belgium, yesterday.
Feilding's Simon Van Velthooven finished 11th in the men's 10,000m scratch race and Putaruru's Tim Bennett 18th in the points race. In the women's 500m time trial, Auckland's Malindi MacLean clocked 36.9s to finish eighth. Sandi Clair of France won in 35.2s.
