Manawatu professional Jesse Sergent showed his class finishing third in the final stage time trial at the prestigious Tour de Romandie in Switzerland today.
Sergent, a double Olympic medallist, finished a close third for his Trek Factory Racing team in the hilly 18.5km time trial.
The New Zealander was in excellent company, finishing closely behind overall winner Chris Froome (Team Sky), the Tour de France champion, and German Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quickstep), who is the current world time trial champion.
"I gave it a crack in the time trial today," Sergent said. "I was happy with my performance and third place is a nice way to end the Tour de Romandie."
Froome won in 24:51 with Martin one second behind and Sergent eight seconds back in third.
