KEY POINTS:
New Zealand champion Hayden Roulston was unable to match his qualifying performance and missed out on a bronze medal in the 4000m individual pursuit at the world track cycling championships in Manchester this morning.
Roulston clocked four minutes 23.663 seconds in the race-off against Russia's Alexei Markov who finished in 4min 21.097 seconds.
The gold went to Britain's Bradley Wiggins who clocked 4min 18.519sec to beat Jenning Huizenga of the Netherlands (4min 23.474sec.
Earlier, Roulston was fourth fastest in the 24-strong field, with 4min 18.334sec, breaking his national record by three seconds.
New Zealand's other rider, Marc Ryan finished 15th in 4min 24.475.
Christchurch's Hayden Godfrey was to race the final of the 15km scratch race later today.
Meanwhile, New Zealand have named Roulston, Ryan, Sam Bewley and Westley Gough to contest tomorrow morning's team pursuit qualifying competition.
