For the first time in eight years a major road cycling race will be held in the Auckland area on July 31.
The Auckland 1000 Road Race is a pre-cursor to Auckland hosting the National Championships in 2007.
The last time Auckland hosted a major road race, was the 1997 National Championship.
The Auckland 1000 will carry more than $4500 in prize money over three grades, with the winner of the main 134km race receiving $1000.
It will be run over the Ramarama-Runciman course south of Drury.
