The New Zealand men's cycling pursuit team grabbed second in the final round of the World Cup in Manchester this morning (NZT).
The quartet of Marc Ryan, Aaron Gate, Wes Gough and Peter Latham finished almost five seconds behind Great Britain's star-studded lineup who came close to breaking their own world record.
New Zealand qualified ahead of eventual World Cup series winners Spain, but had no answer to the British team which boasted three-time Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins as well as Geraint Thomas, Ed Clancy and Steven Burke.
They clocked three minutes, 55.438 seconds over the 4000m, 2.124sec off the world mark set at the Beijing Olympics, while New Zealand bettered their qualifying time to finish in 4min 00.314sec.
Joanne Kiesanowski claimed sixth in the women's omnium on 52 points, 43 behind runaway winner Sarah Hammer from the United States.
