New Zealand cyclist Greg Henderson excelled to snatch a podium finish in a prologue time trial in the Tour of Catalunya in Spain today.
Riding for the professional Columbia-Highroad team, Olympic track rider Henderson finished third on a 3.6km circuit at Lloret de Mar.
He completed the journey in four minutes 49 seconds, 2sec behind Norway's Thor Hushovd and 1sec back of Spaniard Alejandro Valverde.
Henderson's compatriot Hayden Roulston, a teammate of Hushovd in the Cerevo Test team, was 9sec behind the stage winner in 45th place.
The seven day race continues tomorrow with a 163km stage which heads into the mountains with a category one climb 18km from the finish line.
