New Zealand added two further medals to their junior track world cycling championships tally tonight, but a world champion's rainbow jersey still eludes the team with one day remaining in Invercargill.
Waimate's Dylan Kennett earned his third silver medal of the championships in the 3000m individual pursuit after losing out to outstanding Swiss rider and top qualifier Tom Bohli in the gold medal ride-off.
Earlier today, Kennett smashed the New Zealand junior men's record in qualifying, posting a time of 3:16.467. The previous record was held by Te Awamutu's Hayden McCormick who also competed in the individual pursuit at Stadium Southland Velodrome, finishing in sixth place.
The Swiss rider pushed the pace early in the final, ad at one stage was ahead by nearly three seconds before Kennett started to wear him down. The lead was back to 0.8s with a lap remaining but the Kiwi ran out of gas and real estate.
Auckland's Racquel Sheath secured her second medal of the championships with a in the women's six-leg omnium, following her silver in the team pursuit earlier in the meet.
