Pete Latham warmed up for next week's world road cycling championships in Austria with a third in the Chrono Champenois, a UCI category two time-trial race in France.
Latham will be aiming for a second consecutive under-23 medal at the championships.
He won a bronze medal in the time trial in the world championships in Spain last year.
The French race was won by Matti Helminen, of Finland. He beat Russian time-trial champion Alexander Bespalov by just over half a minute. Latham was 37s down on the Scandinavian winner.
Logan Hutchings, the only other New Zealander in the race, finished sixth, 41s behind the winner.
