Hastings teenager Jeremy Yates has become New Zealand's first-ever world road cycling champion after winning the junior men's road race in Plouay, France.
The 18-year-old claimed the 127 kilometre race in a sprint finish in just under three hours.
Yates' coach Gary Bell described the result as "unbeliveable" considering the extremely strong field, in an interview with Radio New Zealand this morning.
