New Zealand cyclist Joanne Kiesanowski finished sixth in yesterday's 115.5km first stage of the women's Tour de l'Aude. The stage, in Port La Nouvelle in southern France, was won in three hours and five minutes by world road race champion Marianne Vos of the Netherlands who proved strongest in a large bunch finish.
Kiesanowski, who rides for the professional Raleigh Lifeforce team, was credited with the same time as Vos and now stands 17th overall in the 10-day race.
Gina Waibl, 28th, was the best of the New Zealand team yesterday. Teammates Michelle Hyland and Toni Bradshaw were 48th and 49th respectively followed by Carissa Wilkes (64th) and Serena Sheridan (66th).
