Terry Gyde has been appointed national track cycling coach, BikeNZ confirmed today.
Gyde will start his new role on June 1.
BikeNZ said applications "came from around the world".
Gyde has been coaching for over 15 years, with his most recent role being coach of the New Zealand team at the world championships in Los Angeles last month.
The team produced top six finishes in all but one event and Greg Henderson narrowly missed retaining his scratch world title.
Gyde replaces Canadian Kurt Innes who left after the Athens Olympics.
"I have finally realised a lifetime ambition of being appointed to the position of national track coach," Gyde said in a statement.
"I am excited about being a part of the BikeNZ high performance team and creating a world class track cycling programme to lead us through to Beijing (Olympics) and beyond.'
Gyde is the fifth recruitment by BikeNZ this year, and joins national road cycling coach Jacques Landry in the high performance team directed by Michael Flynn.
