Irish rider Philip Deignan yesterday won the 18th stage of the Tour of Spain while home favourite Alejandro Valverde held onto the overall lead with three days to go until the end of the race. Deignan, riding for Cervelo, covered the 165km ride from Talavera de la Reina to Avila in four hours, 19 minutes, 14 seconds. Czech rider Roman Kreuziger finished second, three seconds behind Deignan, and Denmark's Jacob Fuglsang was third, 16 seconds from the leader.
