Former world road cycling champion Johan Museeuw received a suspended jail sentence for his involvement in a 2003 doping scandal which cast a pall over his career. A Belgium court gave Museeuw and three lesser-known local riders suspended terms of 10 months, on top of a fine. Considered one of the top one-day cyclists of the past 20 years, the 43-year-old Museeuw had already been banned for two years by Belgium's national cycling federation. He had hoped the penalty would have been enough to escape a court sentence.
