The Team Columbia rider prevailed in a mass sprint at the end of the fifth stage, a 232km ride from Cholet to Chateauroux.
New Zealand's Julian Dean was in the final sprint and finished 10th to help his Garmin-Chipotle team top the team standings. Dean was 66th overall, 4m 19s down on Schumacher.
