Fabian Cancellara won the prologue of the Tour of Switzerland as Lance Armstrong finished far back at the start of his last race before the Tour de France.
The Swiss rider, who also won the Paris-Roubaix in April, finished the 7.6km time trial in 10 minutes, 21 seconds around the lakeside town of Lugano.
Czech rider Roman Kreuziger was one second behind, and Tony Martin of Germany was in third place, three seconds off Cancellara's pace.
Seven-time Tour de France champion Armstrong was 44th overall, 29 seconds back.
