Young Christchurch rider Daniel Franks was the best of the New Zealand elite cyclists with a bronze in the cruiser class finals at the BMX world championships in South Africa yesterday.
Franks was third in the junior men's final of the bigger wheel diameter cruiser class. Defending champion Sarah Walker withdrew after injuring her back in the practice following her second placing in the elite championships.
But Taranaki's Nicole Sarten became the fifth New Zealand world champion crowned this week when she won the women's 17-24 years age group.
