American-based professional Heath Blackgrove has taken a decisive step towards his first Tour of Southland cycling title.
The Zookeepers' rider has finished in a five-man leading group more than a minute ahead of the chasing peloton.
This means Blackgrove now has a 1m 7s lead over Jack Bauer heading into this afternoon's final stage from Winton to Invercargill.
American Michael Olheiser won the penultimate stage and says he can not see Zookeepers surrendering the leader's yellow jersey.
Olheiser says Zookeepers will drive the peloton all the way to Invercargill as they are a good team and they are well managed.
The 64.4km stage starts at 1.30pm.
