BikeNZ chief executive Rodger Thompson last night rubbished any suggestion Olympic and world champion cyclist Sarah Ulmer would discuss possible retirement plans in Wellington today.
A Wellington newspaper report yesterday hinted that Ulmer's meeting with cycling officials today might be the forerunner of an announcement on her future plans.
The speculation stemmed from Ulmer's non-appearance at a function attended by New Zealand's five other world champion cyclists to welcome new high-performance director Australian Michael Flynn.
But Thompson poured cold water on the speculation. Ulmer had a previous engagement, preventing her being in Wellington on Wednesday.
"It's totally incorrect," he said. "There's absolutely nothing going on at all like that."
He said 28-year-old Ulmer, one of the favourites for the Halberg Supreme Award early next year, and her coach and partner, Brendon Cameron, were calling in for a catch-up chat, nothing more, nothing less.
Thompson said it was improbable that Ulmer would be discussing arguably the biggest decision of her career with him. That would be a matter for the rider, her coach and family.
