Tauranga's Vanessa Quin broke an Australian stranglehold to win the women's cruiser class title at the North Island BMX cycling championships in Auckland yesterday.
Australian Warwick Stevenson won the men's superclass category while his compatriot Nicole Callisto secured the women's title.
A crash marred the men's final when Marc Willers, New Zealand's only hope, was taken out while in third place. He came back to finish sixth.
Australia beat New Zealand 102-93 in a senior test.
