New Zealand fans will hope the BMX world championships finish the same way they started after Kiwi riders picked up three golds inside the first 30 minutes of finals at Auckland's Vector Arena yesterday.
Maia Colman-Savage started things off by winning the first gold on offer, the girls' 10-years final, and that was quickly followed by Jessie Smith, who won the girls' 12-years age group, and Cailen Calkin in the boys' 12-years event.
Ryan Martin, who lives in Cambridge, won gold in the boys' 11-years category but was racing under England's banner.
Colman-Savage might have a decision to make in the future which country she represents. She was born in New Zealand but has lived most of her life in Brisbane and is a two-time Australian age-group champion.
She had expected to race for Australia at this week's world championships but, under UCI rules, didn't qualify because she isn't an Australian citizen and needed a wildcard entry under the New Zealand flag.
