West Indian coach Phil Simmons is holding New Zealand cricket up as a guiding light for his own beleaguered team.
Simmons wants the West Indian cricket board to take a leaf out of New Zealand's book in an effort to get some of their star players back on board.
Whereas a lengthy review by the West Indies director of cricket Richard Pybus demanded priority be given to the domestic and international programme over the global Twenty20 leagues, Simmons says an attitude of compromise is needed.
Simmons is naturally annoyed that Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Andrew Russell are starring in the Big Bash rather than turning out for the Windies, and he wants his board to be more pragmatic.
He told the Sydney Morning Herald: "I'm totally frustrated...it's something that's been going on for a while and it's up to the administration to work out how we get to the stage of let's say New Zealand, because they have similar things and they're getting all their players to play."
