Six of the best: Stunning cricket catches

Following Trent Boult's stunning catch of Kieron Pollard in today's second Twenty20, the Herald lists six other amazing cricket catches.

Pollard was the man to fall to Boult's brilliance today but it he no doubt could only stand and be impressed after doing the same thing during the recent Indian Premier League. Playing for the Mumbai Indians, the West Indian caught compatriot Kevon Cooper, playing for the Rajasthan Royals, in similar vein to Boult's take today. A close look at the video shows the boundary rope may have been pushed out which worked to Pollard's favour.

The West Indies should have learned already - don't hit the ball anywhere near Trent Boult. Last summer he dismissed Denesh Ramdin with a one-handed dive behind him at the Basin Reserve. With little reaction time that is right up there.

The little Sri Lankan spinner is not known for his fielding skills but he showed they are there after pulling off a one-handed stunner near the boundary to end Matthew Wade's innings during the first game of the Commonwealth Bank series final at the Gabba in 2012. It didn't inspire his side to victory with the Aussies making 321 to win by 15 runs.

"It's as good as you'll ever see," said the late Tony Greig after Sinclair dived to his left to snatch a one-handed grab, send Matthew Hayden back to the pavilion. The catch is even better for the fact that the New Zealander gives the Aussie crowd a serve after copping abuse earlier in the innings.

The Sri Lankan duo combined to take the wicket of Aussie opener David Warner in a Twenty20 encounter in 2011. Superb work by Mathews to run down the ball and have the sense of mind to send it back into the field of play towards Jayawardene - who takes all the credit in the scorebook. Even the commentators are confused about what happened.

Michael Mason/Bevan Small

A 12th man very rarely makes an impact on a game but Bevan Small did just that to assist Michael Mason with the dismissal of Northern Knights batsman Brad Wilson during an HRV Cup clash in 2012. Wilson lofted a drive down the ground that looked headed for the boundary before Small launched himself at the ball, catching it horizontally over the boundary and flicking it back to Mason, who dived to take a brilliant catch.
