KEY POINTS:
7.50pm
Gayle and Vettori have shaken hands and called the game off, giving the victory to the Black Caps by six runs under the Duckworth Lewis system.
The Windies were keen to get the game back on it's feet whilst the home side weren't enthused to revive the game as they were leading the game.
The rain looked to have stopped, but it hosed down again moving the captain's to agree to call off the match.
In an ironic way it's an appropriate ending as the series has been dictated largely by the weather, seeing the three of the five matches abandoned due to rain.
7.00pm
New Zealand call their power play in the 34th over, Elliot and Taylor respond accordingly, putting New Zealand in front in the Duckworth Lewis system as light rain decends on the ground.
The Black Caps take the lead finsihing the 35th over 211 runs for five after brilliant strokes from Taylor find the boundary, the Windies desperately need a wicket.
83 runs for 90 balls is the required target for the Kiwis as they look for the win.
Play has been called off after 36 overs, both teams leave the field as the rain has made it too slippery for the side's to continue playing.
6.34pm
At the end of the 30th over, it's 182 for five at McLean Park in Napier.
Doube strike by Powell in the 29th over brings Windies back into contention, as he kills off Daniel Fylnn for 21 and Neil Broom for a duck in consecutive balls.
He bowls a wide on his hat-trick ball, it doesn't take away from his brilliant bowling.
New Zealand were cruising along but the double strike has changed the game to give the Windies the upper hand.
Grant Elliot is out in the middle with Ross Taylor on four and 33 runs.
6.13pm
Halfway mark: The Black Caps have 25 overs left to make the Windies total.
Taylor and Flynn plug away at the total of 293 with five solid overs of batting lifting the runs chase to 164 for three after 25 overs.
Brendon Nash tried his hand with the ball, but was changed with Daren Powell who is bowling with more control.
Taylor is on 27 and Flynn has 14 runs to his stats, a firm showing from both batters, much needed by the Black Caps outfit at this time.
5.52pm
20 overs gone, and the New Zealanders lose another wicket this time Guptill falls for 43, caught behind off Pollard, in the second ball of the 19th over.
An interesting game now as the home side are in front of the run rate, but need a batter to take command of the game.
Flynn comes into bat with Taylor and his wicket nearly goes after three balls, he nicks it through the gap between Ramdin and Gayle at first slip.
Close call, would've been a big sclap for the Windies.
Black Caps have 144 runs for three wickets, and need 150 runs from 30 overs to clinch the series.
5.33pm
McCullum the dangerman goes for 41 as he tries to whip th ball across the line, which unfortunately for him ends up in the hands of Findlay at mid wicket.
Big wicket for the Windies as Baker grabs his second of the match.
The Black Caps climb to 119 for two after 15 overs with Ross Taylor and Martin Guptill on 11 and 33 respectively.
The runs have slowed for the home side but the fast start has allowed Taylor and Guptill to calm the nerves and settle in for the long haul.
A long stay in the middle from this third wicket pair is what the Black Caps need to take the series, Windies would be wanting the opposite.
5.05pm
Black Caps are 95 runs for one..Ryder rides back to pavilion.
The Windies breach the Black Caps opening partnership, just what the visitor's needed after a shaky start which turned to custard.
Jesse Ryder is sent packing on 21 runs after skying a shot caught by Findlay off the bowling of Baker, over ambitious play by the recalled Black Cap.
Martin Guptill takes the stand alongside McCullum who is closing in on his half century, currently with 41 runs.
Guptill's entry has continued the momentum that Ryder and McCullum had in the first wicket.
4.40pm
Great start from the Black Caps!
After lunch, the match resumes with a solid first over from Windies bowler Fidel Edwards finishing the first over 1 run for no loss.
The second over changes the complexion of the match as Brendon McCullum smashes Powell for four boundaries moving the score to 24 without loss.
The third over see's Edwards this time pounded by McCullum with fifteen runs extracted from the over.
The Black Caps bring up fifty runs inside the first five overs, finishing with 53 runs without loss.
3.30pm
The Windies end the innings on 293 for nine wickets.
A mini collapase occurred in the West Indies batting order, Pollard the first to go for 19 in the 46th over, is followed by Chanderpaul who is unlucky not to make his century falling six runs short.
Powell is out in the 49th over, out for one run off the bowling of Mills.
Mark Gillespie picks up the wicket of Fidel Edwards with the last ball, ending the day with the Black Caps best bowling figures of four wickets for 58 runs.
3.05pm
Gayle is out for 135 runs off 125 balls! The visitor's skipper is caught short of the midwicket boundary off Taylor from Mills, the Kiwi's needed that wicket desperatly.
What an innings though, he played patiently but was brilliant in his shot making and punishing in his boundary shots.
Shawn Findlay comes in to join Chanderpaul in the 44rd over, yet his time at the crease is brief as he is run out the very next over on three runs.
Chanderpaul has 87 runs to his name and Kieron Pollard has eight after 45 overs.
With five overs remaining the West Indies sit on 260 runs for four wickets.
2.43pm
Gayle and Chanderpaul up the ante and take the game to the Black Caps.
The power play overs has been very fruitful for the Windies side moving the score to 207 for two after 40 overs.
The skipper has reached 119 runs and Chanderpaul joins him in today's half century club on 60 runs.
Chanderpaul has shown his array of batting skills, bringing up his 50 in a timely knock for the Carribean side.
West Indies look to be heading to 300 plus runs if the current pair stay in and bat out the rest of the innings.
2.22pm
Drinks break:The West Indies side move to 142 runs for two after 35 overs.
Gayle and Chanderpaul currently sit on 86 and 31 runs respectively. Together they have racked up 69 runs in their fourth wicket stand.

Grant Elliot bowled the 35th over, Vettori has pulled himself out of the bowling ranks to throw Souuthee back into the game.
2.04pm
Only 20 overs remaining, 30 overs gone, both teams are sizing each other up at the moment.
The Windies total 121 runs for two from a run rate of 3 an over isn't enough to post a big target, Chanderpaul and Gayle need to pick up the score.
Southee joins the attack in the 29th over and Gayle punishes the youngster for nine runs during the over, the most productive over for the Windies for the past 10.
1.48pm
The match has reached the halfway point in the Windies innings with the score at 93 for two.
The last five overs have been restrictive to the construction of the Carribean side's runs total with only 13 runs being made.
Captain Daniel Vettori and Jesse Ryder have been the main culprits to the cause of their paltry run rate.
Great control from the Kiwi's here.
1.30pm
Mark Gillespie makes a vital breakthrough in the Windies armour with the wicket of Sarwarn in the 17th over, who hurries a shot which top edges to Elliot at fine leg.
Chris Gayle brings up his 38th half century in one day internationals, punching away a single to square.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul joins his skipper at the crease, the Windies two most experienced players are out in the middle now.
After 20 overs the Windies sit on 82 runs for two.
1.10pm
Gillespie finishes the 15th over with Windies on 70 runs for one.
The West Indies pair of Gayle and Sarwan have settled in to the task at hand, with the Windies skipper three runs off the half century.
He has played some spanking strokes to the boundary, although his lack of singles and pairs have kept the home side in the game.
The last five overs have been a settling period for the Carribean side, without being empathic in style, they have pushed their side's total along smoothly.
12.45pm
The Windies looked to be on the backfoot in the opening stanza, are now moving along nicely.
Chris Gayle has been the main contributer to his side's fortunes, with the Windies captain smashing a pair of of fours and two huge sixes.
However he would've been back in the pavilion had the fully stretched Jesse Ryder held on to a top edge nick, it was a tough chance, but Gayle looks to have thrived after that drop.
Tim Southee has entered the bowling attack in the ninth over.
The Windies after 10 overs have moved to 44 runs for one wicket.
12.22pm
Kyle Mills starts the day brilliantly with a maiden first over and the wicket of Sewnarine Chattergoon in the third over.
Mills bowled a great ball which clipped the top of the off stump, Chattergoon didn't play at it, a costly error.

After 5 overs the Windies have moved the score to 13 runs for one.
