KEY POINTS:
Sri Lankan Government soldiers and Tamil Tiger rebels held a truce on Wednesday so they could watch their national cricket side beat New Zealand by 81 runs and advance to the World Cup final, AFP news agency reported.
The Tigers held true to their word of not attacking while the cricket was on as they "would be watching the match".
However, it was short-lived as just five hours after the match two policemen were killed in a roadside bomb attack, AFP said.
Sri Lanka will play Australia in Sunday's final, who beat South Africa in St Lucia today by seven wickets.
