One punter was so confident in South Africa beating the UAE in their Cricket World Cup match in Wellington today that they invested $60,000 through the TAB on the Proteas at $1.01.

The bet will return a $600 profit and at the halfway point it looks pretty safe. South Africa lost the toss and were put in to bat at Wellington Regional Stadium but they carved their way to 341-6 - a total the UAE could only dream of chasing.

Commentary

The in-form AB de Villiers led the way with 99 before he was caught at short third man; an odd position in the field given the late stage of the innings. It marked the 27th time a batsman had been dismissed for 99 in one-day internationals.

David Miller (49) and Rilee Rossouw (43) also made steady contributions for a South African side who were upset last Saturday by Pakistan in Auckland.

Opener Hashim Amla was struck in the forearm by a stray full toss in the early going and looked in discomfort before he was caught after only making 12. South Africa will hope he wasn't injured after getting caught flush on the arm.

Farhaan Behardien, an aggressive type, made a valuable 64 not out from No 7 for the Proteas, as he finished the innings in quick fashion.

The UAE, who are yet to register a win at the tournament having dropped their first four games, struggled to create inroads with the ball but seamer Muhammad Naveed did produce career-best figures of 3-63 from his 10 overs.

South Arica are chasing second place in Pool B and boast an imposing seam attack in Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander and Dale Steyn, which should prove too much for the UAE's batting line-up.
