The Prime Minister will be in Christchurch today, for the first step in the upgrade of Hagley Oval for the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
John Key will be turning the first sod for the Hagley Oval Pavilion this afternoon.
The building is being delivered by the Canterbury Cricket Trust, and forms part of the broader re-development of the grounds to bring it up to international standards.
Embankments and lighting towers will also be put in.
Hagley Oval has to be ready to host the tournament opener between the Black Caps and Sri Lanka on February 14 2015.
