Cricket World Cup: Jubilant reaction floods in for victorious Black Caps

Reaction is flooding in after the Black Caps win over South Africa in the World Cup semifinal at Eden Park last night.

Former Black Cap Jacob Oram told Newstalk ZB that it appeared the team were confident they could overcome any challenge.

He said the Black Caps were "dominating in their style" and "uncompromising in their attitude".

"It looks like at the moment nothing daunts them," he said.

"The bigger the expectation, the more that is asked the bigger they stand up."

He said New Zealand should go in to the World Cup final in Melbourne on Sunday as favourites.

"I honestly don't think this World Cup final is doing to daunt these guys."

He put the Black Caps' string of winning performances down to a combination of skill and good leadership, and commended the leadership of Brendon McCullum, on and off the field.

"It must be a combination of the skill they have in the team, the confidence that's born about from winning, and also the leadership that's coming from the very top."

Robbie Kerr of Wellington Cricket told Radio New Zealand he was "delighted" with the way Wellington captain and Man of the Match Grant Elliott played.

"It was certainly clear that Grant was in the zone and playing magnificently," he said.

"The longer the innings went the more it looked like he had control to see it all the way through."

Mr Kerr said Elliott's selection for the Black Caps was probably a late one, but his character and team-play was probably what got him selected.

"He deserves every success that comes his way, he's a great team man and he got our team over the line and a shot at the World Cup," Mr Kerr said.
