India have jumped ahead of the Black Caps on the Cricket World Cup ladder after thumping the West Indies by 125 runs this morning.
India's 268-7 proved more than enough for victory at Old Trafford in Manchester, as the West Indies never got going and were rolled for 143.
The victory moves India to 11 points from six games - the same amount as the Black Caps have tallied in seven matches.
However, the dominant nature of India's win has jumped them past the Black Caps on net run rate, dropping New Zealand to third on the ladder.
India still have to play England, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to finish their group stage, and look good to secure a top two spot heading into the semifinals. A win over England would also ensure England could not finish ahead of New Zealand, and likely ensure the Black Caps a 2 v 3 semifinal matchup.
Captain Virat Kohli led India's victory today with 72 from 82 balls, helped by KL Rahul (48 from 64), Hardik Pandya (46 from 38) and MS Dhoni (56 not from 61).
It was a chaseable total for the West Indies' powerful hitters, but Chris Gayle and Shai Hope fell in the first seven overs, and while they rebuilt to reach 71-2, they collapsed to be bowled out for 143 - Mohammed Shami taking 4-16 and Jasprit Bumrah 2-9 from six overs.
South Africa take on Sri Lanka in tonight's match, with Sri Lanka needing a win to maintain a realistic chance at making the semifinals.
