Lou Vincent has played an unexpected cameo at the Cricket World Cup.
The banned New Zealand cricketer has featured in a video message to teams and officials over the perils of match-fixing.
About 30 seconds of footage including the line "My name is Lou Vincent and I am a cheat" is understood to have featured as a warning to the 210 players in Australia and New Zealand for the tournament.
Vincent was banned for life last year by the England and Wales Cricket Board. The ban bars him from playing, coaching or participating in any form of cricket recognised by the International Cricket Council or any of its member countries. The terms of the ban mean Vincent can only watch the World Cup on television rather than attend any games.
The 36-year-old, who played 23 tests, 102 one-day internationals and nine T20 internationals, pleaded guilty to 18 match-fixing or spot-fixing charges involving matches he played for English counties Lancashire in 2008 and Durham in 2011. Eleven of the 18 offences carried life bans.
Vincent has since gone on from fixing cricket matches to fixing houses. He is working for a building company, believed to be Platinum Homes, where he uses his tradesman skills to complete minor repairs. Vincent recently married Susie Markham, the woman who has supported him through his public confession and mea culpa.
