Where there's Anderson there's hope. Big Corey has gone to 32 off 22, and is at his bludgeoning best. Vettori has just skied one off the bowling of Mahmudullah that was dropped in the outfield. It was a close run thing - a big dive by Nasir but he just couldn't pocket it. 26 needed off 18 balls.

WICKET! Ronchi departs for nine, caught on the boundary from the bowling of Al Hasan, who now has four wickets. Daniel Vettori comes to the crease with New Zealand needing 40 off 30 balls. It's going to be tight, folks.

Anderson has gone to 23 off 15. He's just hit a towring six over cow corner from the bowling of Al Hasan. What a relief it is to see some positive batting.

You have to question the value of Taylor's innings. He used up almost 100 balls to make a pretty ugly 50. In the meantime, it did very little for his team's cause other than push up the required run rate. He really needs to rediscover his mojo fast. What happened to the big slog sweeps, the punishing pulls? He almost looks timid nowadays, which is a strange thing to say about Ross Taylor. Since he departed, Ronchi and Anderson have got on with it. NZ now needs 54 off 42 balls.

WICKET! Taylor has gone. Nasir Hossain picks him up lbw as Taylor was trying to sweep. It was as plum as could be but Taylor did that weird thing where he reviews a dead cert decision then walks off before the third umpire has had a chance to have a look at it. Strange behaviour. He finished with 56 off 97 balls. Luke Ronchi comes to the crease.

That wicket has really slowed things down. Taylor is scratching around and going nowhere - his strike rate is 58. Anderson has yet to score. The required run rate is over eight now. Time to worry?

WICKET! Elliott goes for a well-played 39 off 34 balls. Hossain picks him up with a full ball that was swinging away. Elliott followed it and tried to slap it over cover, but the movement got the better of him and the shot flew square to Taskin Ahmed at deep point. Corey Anderson comes to the crease with NZ still needing 79 runs.

Taylor is obviously playing the anchor role here. His 53 has come at a strike rate of just 62. He looks very determined to be there at the end. Rubel Hossain has just bowled a top over for Bangladesh. Very slippery on a tight line. Just the one run from it. They may not win this game, but the Bangladeshis have shown they've got loads of talent at their disposal.

Elliott is playing with real fluency here. He's gone to 24 off 17. He's found form from somewhere - just not sure where. The total needed is under 100 now - 97 off 90 balls for the win.

50 for Taylor! Patient knock from Ross. It's taken him 82 balls to get to the milestone, but that doesn't matter. The main thing is that he's helped NZ get into a position to win. This will do his confidence no end of good.

WICKET! Guptill goes for 105, caught off the bowling of Al Hasan, who has now taken all three wickets. Brilliant innings from Guptill. Grant Elliott comes to the crease to join Ross Taylor, with NZ still needing 125 runs for the win. A lot of pressure now goes on Taylor to guide the Black Caps home.

New Zealand needs a further 131 runs off 131 balls for victory. Taylor has gone to 45, and will be looking to raise his bat shortly. The partnership is now worth 125 runs. Fantastic stuff.

100 for Guptill! Brilliant scenes at Seddon Park as the crowd rises as one to salute him. He's played a gem of an innings and deserves all the applause. Looks like he's still in a bit of pain from the cramp.

Taylor has worked hard to keep himself in check during this innings - no sign at all of the slog sweep. Guptill goes to 99 with a single, and en route he starts to hobble. There's an awful in-take of breath from the crowd as they think it's a hamstring, but fortunately it turns out to be just a touch of cramp.

Guptill getting close to a hundred. He's on 96 now, but it all could have come to a painful end in the last over. He tried to paddle sweep Mahmudullah and got a top edge that only just snuck over the head and outstretched hand of the man at backward square-leg.

Guptill is now on 87 off 77 balls. How he would darely love a hundred tonight. NZ needs a further 152 runs for victory.

Taylor has gone to 37 in this innings and 5000 runs in ODI cricket over the course of his career. Just the fourth New Zealander to achieve the milestone. With each ball he spends at the crease he looks better and better.

This game is delicately poised at the moment. Guptill (77) and Taylor (30) have put together an extremely valuable partnership of 84, but another wicket here would bring Elliott to the crease, and the status of his form at the moment is anyone's guess. NZ are ticking along at 5.5 runs per over, with the required rate just a smidge above that.

100 up for New Zealand! It was a streaky shot from Guptill, a genuine edge off the bowling of Rubel, but it sails wide of the keeper and down to the third man boundary for four. Guptill is 73 off 62, Taylor 20 off 38.

After a difficult start in which the Black Caps lost McCullum and Williamson in quick succession, NZ has fought back to be 95-2, thanks largely to a classy 66 off 58 balls from Martin Guptill. NZ needs a further 194 for victory off 34 overs.

Taylor hits the left-arm spinner Taijul Islam for a nice one-bouce four over square leg. Hopefully that will release the pressure on him somewhat. Ross has 19 off 28 now.

Guptill and Taylor bring up their 50 partnership. In spite of the two early wickets, the Black Caps are travelling nicely here with a run rate well above six per over. Taylor looks scratchy, but if he can stick around he has a great chance to bat himself into some form. Bangladesh are bowling OK, Taskin Ahmed in particular, but Guptill has been able to find the fence regularly. His 61 runs include seven fours and two sixes.

50 for Guptill! Very nice knock. He needs to go on here if the Black Caps are to have a fighting chance at hauling in this big total.

Don't want to put the mockers on him, but Guptill is looking great. He looks nice and upright in his stance, and seems to have a lot of time to play his strokes. He's just one run short of a well-earned 50. The Black Caps need plenty out of him tonight.

Guptill has kept the scoring rate ticking along - he's gone to 39 off 34 balls. Down the other end, Taylor has looked less comfortable for his three off 10.

This will be a very interesting examination of NZ's batting depth. The slow spin option has come up trumps for Bangladesh. Guptill looks in good touch, but he and Taylor will have to stay together for quite some time if the Black Caps are going to get over the line.

WICKET! Williamson gone for one. NZ in all sorts here. Al Hasan strikes again with his gentle finger spin. KW looked to have too much time on the shot, and just ended up spooning a dolly of a catch to Tamim Iqbal at point. Big opportunity for Ross Taylor to step up.

WICKET! McCullum goes. The spin works a trick - Al Hasan entices B-Mac into a big lofted drive, but the NZ skipper didn't get enough of it and holed out to long on. Kane "Steady the Ship" Williamson comes to the crease.

Great stuff from Guptill - he takes 16 from Al Hasan's second over, including two delightful straight sixes. He's raced to 17 off 13 balls. And that aggression has brought about a change in the bowling, with the paceman Rubel Hossain coming on.

Another good over, this time from Taijul Islam. McCullum did manage a four over mid wicket, but this is far from the swashbuckling starts we've grown accustomed to. Great thinking from Bangladesh to start with spin at either end.

Great first over from Al Hasan - a maiden. Guptill didn't try to get anything away. Let's see how McCullum handles the slower bowling of Taijul Islam.

That was a much-needed breakthrough from Elliott, but it won't stop Bangladesh posting a very competitive total. The Black Caps have bowled out every team they've played in the World Cup so far, but it doesn't look as though they'll repeat the dose today.

Mahmadullah brings up his century! Brilliant knock. That's his second consecutive ton, after his equally-impressive 103 against England earlier in the week. He jumps in the air, raises his bat, blows kisses to the crowd, and milks the applause. And rightly so. Bangladesh have found themselves a genuine star. He's just the seventh player in World Cup history to bring up back-to-back tons. As a side note, McClenaghan has now gone for 68 off eight overs.
5.12pm - Bangladesh 230-5 (45 overs)
McClenaghan has had a poor day at the office. He's bowled way too short, and on this pitch the ball has just sat up innocuously to be slapped to the boundary. Sabbir put him to the sword in that 14-run over, spanking a baseball-style six straight over the bowler's head. McClenaghan has bowled seven wicketless overs for 51 runs. Not good.
5.10pm - Bangladesh 216-5 (44 overs)
It will be interesting to see where McCullum finds his last few overs from. Anderson and Vettori have already bowled out, while Southee and Boult only have one left each. Mahmadullah close to a brilliant hundred - he's on 94 now.

200 up for Bangladesh. Mahmadullah has gone to 86 and looks to be playing the achor role, while Sabbir has raced to 11 off nine.

Mahmadullah whacks McClenaghan over deep square-leg for six. This guy can really bat. Bangladesh are looking to pick up the run rate here in the final 10 overs. McClenaghan hasn't done an awful lot on his return to the team. He's bowled six overs for 38 runs. Can't imagine Milne will be out of the side too long if he's fully fit.

WICKET! Anderson strikes again. He picks up Rahim this time, who came down the pitch to charge, but the ball got too big on him and caught the edge of his bat on the way through to Ronchi. The new batsman is Sabbir Rahman.

Mahmadullah has gone to 72 now, and he's playing a bobby-dazzler for his side. Dan Vettori comes in for the last over of his spell.

If Bangladesh score at eight an over from here, which they are well capable of doing, New Zealand could be chasing something in the order of 280 runs. That sort of score would provide a good test of the Black Caps' middle order, which has been shaky.

Old "Golden Arm" Anderson strikes again. It wasn't a good ball by any stretch - wide, not doing much, but Al Hasan had a dirty slap at it and only succeeded in getting a knick through to Ronchi. Mushfiqur Rahim is the new batsman.

WICKET! Anderson picks up Al Hasan, caught behind by Luke Ronchi for 23. That is a much-needed breakthrough.

The two best Bangladesh players are at the crease now - Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmadullah. Both have played well over 100 ODIs, and both have respectable-to-good averages in the mid-30s. Apart from the first few overs when Boutl and Southee were making the white ball talk, the Bangladesh batsmen have handled the New Zealand attack with relative ease.

Corey Anderson back into the attack now. McCullum is shuffling his bowlers around here, trying to pick up a wicket. Here's a thought - how about Kane Williamson?

Boult back into the attack but no luck for him first up. Vettori is compiling great figures once again - 1-18 off seven so far. What a fantastic World Cup he's having.

WICKET! Vettori picks up Sakar for 51. Sakar is a bit guilty of relaxing after he got to his 50. He danced down the wicket and tried to hit Vettori down the ground, but he didn't get enough of it and Corey Anderson gladly swallowed the catch in the deep.

Sakar brings up his 50 - well played, sir! This partnership is worth 88 now. The Bangladesh fans in the crowd are making plenty of noise.

Mahmadullah (45) and Sarkar (47) are both on the cusp of bringing up well-deserved half centuries. McCullum brings Southee back into the attack. Can he repeat his England heroics and rip through the Bangladesh order?

New Zealand can't find a way through this partnership between Mahmudullah and Sarkar. Both are handling Vettori and McClenaghan with aplomb. If Bangladesh wins this game, they would mostly likely face South Africa in the quarters. However, if they lose, they would probably play India. Can't imagine they would excited by either prospect.
3.30pm - Bangladesh 84-2 (20 overs)
Scott Styris has just proffered some interesting thoughts on why Anderson is such a golden arm. Styris reckons it's becuase he's quicker than batsmen give him credit for, meaning the ball arrives a bit sooner than expected. Hence all the catches that fly off to point, gully and third man. There could be something in that. Meanwhile, The Bangas are going along nicely here. McCullum will want a wicket soon, as this partnership is worth 59 now.

McClenaghan back into the attack. He'll be eager to get things right. He went for 11 off his first over and was yanked by McCullum. Bangladesh are travelling at around 4.5 an over. This is a real contest.

Mahmudullah looks in fine touch, which shouldn't be any surprise given that he's coming off a hundred against England. He's scored 243 runs at the World Cup so far at an average of over 60. Quality player.

Vettori up to his old tricks - conceding just one run off his first over. Corey Anderson into the attack at the other end, replacing McClenaghan who only bowled one over for 11. McCullum continues to throw himself around in the field - brave but reckless stuff.

Dan Vettori into the attack. Weird scenes out on the playing field. There seems to be a lot of insects buzzing around the players. They're spraying insect repellant all over the show.

Mahmudullah is the other Bangladesh batsman, in case you were wondering. He looks the goods, and has raced to 24 off 17 balls. Great atmosphere at the ground - there seems to be plenty of Bangladesh support in amongst the bumper crowd.

Sarkar looks the real deal - he's raced to 30 off 19 balls, to get Bangladesh over the 50-run mark. McClenaghan showed a bit of rust in his first over, going for 11 runs. Difficult gig for him today, coming out after spending so long in the wings.

Boult thoroughly deserved that wicket - his rhythm, line and length - not to mention his predigious swing - have been something to behold. Tom Moody in the comm box is waxing lyrical about Boult, and with just cause. The wicket ball was a peach, started on a middle-stump line and then moved just enough to clip Kayes' off stump. Name any of the great swing bowlers - Hadlee, Akram, Alderman, Anderson - that ball from Boult would have done any of them proud. Soumya Sarkar is the new batsman.

WICKET! Boult snares Kayes, clean bowled. Gorgeous delivery.

The ball is bending like a banana out there. Southee had Tamim in realm trouble during that over. An inch-perfect yorker even brought him crashing to the ground. You get the sense that a wicket isn't far off. McCullum has stacked the cordon with three slips and a gully.

Two overs gone. Boult and Southee are bowling beautifully, full and generating lots of swing. These two are such a great opening pair. Boult's first over had shades of the great Wasim Akram about it.

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has won the toss and decided to bat in the World Cup match against Bangladesh in Hamilton.
New Zealand have made their first change for the tournament with Mitchell McClenaghan coming in for Adam Milne. Milne suffered bruising to the a/c joint of his shoulder against Afghanistan, meaning he is rested.
New Zealand are unbeaten in five matches. They will top the pool regardless of today's result. The hosts have not played Bangladesh at the venue in an ODI but won their sole Twenty20 against them by 10 wickets in 2010.
Bangladesh are resting captain Mashrafe Mortaza. Shakib Al Hasan has taken on the duties.
Yesterday speculation swirled that a sore throat or calf injury might rule Mortaza out. Another theory suggested he wouldn't be risked after a slow over rate in the 15-run win against England. Mashrafe pleaded guilty and was fined 40 percent of his match fee. They want to guarantee his presence for their quarter-final.
Arafat Sunny is also out with Taijul Islam and Nasir Hossain coming in.
A win today would see Bangladesh advance to at least third in the pool.
The forecast is for a cloudy day with a high of 26 and light rain to fall briefly mid-evening.

Not sure about this decision from Brendon McCullum. Having won the toss, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for the Kiwi batsman, especially the likes of Ross Taylor and Grant Elliott, to get some much-needed time at the crease. But with all the rain in Hamilton yesterday, B-Mac may have thought it risky to send his troops out on a pitch that could do a bit. I guess we should bear in mind that in tournament play, all you have to do is keep racking up wins.
