Kane Williamson has been denied the chance at a triple century after Northern Districts declared with the Black Caps batsman on 284 in their Plunket Shield match against Wellington.
Williamson, who started day three on 252, was looking to become just the seventh New Zealander to score a first class 300 when his side declared on 608 for nine with a first innings lead of 446 runs.
Williamson faced 400 balls in his knock which lasted nine minutes shy of 600 minutes out in the middle. He hit 31 fours and one six in the highest individual score by a Northern Districts batsman.
The last New Zealander to score 300 in a first class match was Peter Fulton who made 301 not out for Canterbury against Auckland in the 2002/03 season.
New Zealand great Bert Sutcliffe is the only Kiwi player to score two triple centuries and holds the record for the highest individual first class innings with 385 in the 1952/53 season.
