KEY POINTS:
Wellington exacted sweet revenge over Canterbury with a last-over win in their State League Twenty20 women's cricket final at the Basin Reserve yesterday.
On Saturday, chasing Wellington's 197 for eight in the 50-over final, Canterbury got there with a single off the final ball for a two-wicket win. Yesterday, chasing Canterbury's 123 off 18.3 overs, Wellington made it with three balls to spare for a four-wicket victory.
Wellington opener Lucy Doolan cracked 63 off 51 balls, including eight fours. When she departed in the 15th over courtesy of a smart stumping by Canterbury keeper Rowan Milburn off the bowling of Frankie Mackay, Wellington looked shaky at 91 for five.
However, Liz Perry's 22 off 23 balls made things safe.
Canterbury put together a more cohesive top-order effort, Mackay and Maria Fahey putting on 57 for the first wicket before Doolan removed Mackay for 20 off 24 balls as the side stuttered to 123 all out.
