KEY POINTS:
Michael Vaughan has ruled out making a shock early return to the England cricket team for the Ashes series.
The sidelined skipper moved comfortably in the field on the opening day of the two-day tour game against Western Australia, but said he needed more game time to be ready for a five-day test as he returns after mid-year knee surgery.
He said he would need another three-day game to have any chance of playing in the third test, starting in Perth on Thursday, or the fourth test in Melbourne, starting on Boxing Day.
Vaughan said he would focus on making himself available for the triangular one-day series, also featuring New Zealand, which starts next month.
