KEY POINTS:
A summer tradition in Australia for almost 30 years - a three-country limited-overs cricket tournament - could be scrapped by 2008.
Cricket Australia said yesterday it would not rule out changes to its one-day format - which began in 1979 when Australian millionaire Kerry Packer introduced the concept - after complaints that the series is too drawn-out and drops in popularity when Australia is not in the final.
The next series involving England, New Zealand and Australia, which starts on January 12 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, features 12 preliminary games over 26 days before a best-of-three finals series.
Cricket Australia said it could, in future, schedule a separate one-day series against touring sides, which would feature Australia in every match and could be split up and played either side of test series.
It is locked in to host a tri-series in 2007-08.
