Sachin Tendulkar equalled the world record for test centuries when he scored his 34th against Bangladesh last night. The feat means India's two master batsmen - Sunil Gavaskar and Tendulkar - share the record although Tendulkar will have a chance to stand alone in the second test.
Tendulkar was in blazing form as he reached his century after a poor start by India in reply to Bangladesh's first innings of 184.
As India approached tea, Tendulkar reached the magic mark with a single, making 100 in 166 balls, with 15 fours. Captain Saurav Ganguly batted beautifully for 71 as India reached 232 for four at tea. Tendulkar, 31, led a charmed life at the crease, however, with Bangladeshi pacemen earlier tempting him into dangerous territory.
