KEY POINTS:
Auckland Cricket has appointed former Zimbabwe international cricketer Paul Strang as its head coach for the remainder of the domestic season.
Strang is a temporary replacement for Mark O'Donnell, who has been seconded to be New Zealand's assistant coach on the current tour by India.
Strang, who will be assisted by former New Zealand opening batsman Matt Horne, has been a staff coach with Auckland Cricket for eight months and has worked with the association's A team.
He is relishing a new challenge.
"Having worked with a lot of these guys already there won't be too many new faces for me to get to know but it will be a different environment and with a different end goal," Strang said in a statement.
"Matt and myself have already worked together a good deal and have a great understanding so the partnership should work well."
Former legspinner Strang played 24 tests and 95 one-day internationals in a Zimbabwe career that spanned eight years.
The long-term head coaching position at Auckland will be reviewed at the end of the season.
