Canterbury and Wellington were evenly poised at stumps on the second day of the State Championship cricket final yesterday as Wellington's first innings began to slip from their grip in light rain.
Stumps were called shortly after tea when Wellington were 163 for six in reply to Canterbury's first innings of 215.
Earlier Canterbury added 51 runs to their overnight 165 for six with Brandon Hiini, who was on 11 overnight, not out 31. Wellington bowler Iain O'Brien, who took three wickets yesterday, finished with five for 70 and Jeetan Patel two for 30.
Wellington looked set for a big first innings when Neal Parlane and Grant Elliott got going after lunch, taking the score from 18 for two to 90 before Neal Parlane became Canterbury bowler Hamish Bennett's second victim of the day.
Wellington only need to draw the match to take the championship.
