SYDNEY - The Sri Lankan cricket team has been fined by the International Cricket Council for maintaining a slow over rate during the one-day tri series match win over Australia at the MCG on Friday night.
Match referee Jeff Crowe imposed the fine after Mahela Jayawardena's team was ruled to be one over short of its target when time allowances were taken into consideration.
Under the ICC code of conduct regulations, Jayawardena was fined 10 per cent of his match fee with each of his players receiving five per cent fines.
Sri Lanka won Friday's dead rubber by 13 runs before heading home having failed to make the one-day tri series finals, which begin with Australia taking on India at the SCG today.
