KEY POINTS:
A Southern Hemisphere, IPL-style Twenty20 competition is currently being explored by New Zealand Cricket and the national cricket boards of Australia and South Africa.
The idea is for a regional Twenty20 competition to take place by 2011, involving city-based, franchise-owned teams.
New Zealand Cricket chief executive Justin Vaughan says the concept is still in its infancy. He says there are a lot of details to be worked out, but it is an exciting concept and a sign of the way international cricket is moving.
Vaughan says one of the major challenges they will face is finding a window in which the tournament can be played.
