ST JOHN'S, Antigua - Nicky Boje was examined by a cardiologist after suffering from irregular breathing during the fourth day of the fourth cricket test between South Africa and the West Indies yesterday.
South African left-arm spinner Boje, 32, did not take the field after tea and a media statement issued by Cricket South Africa today said he would take no further part in the match.
The statement said Boje had a recurrence of the breathing problems he developed on the first day of the test.
"On the advice of a cardiologist who took him for tests, he will not be able to participate further in this match and will have to undergo further tests," the statement said.
Selection convenor Haroon Lorgat, who is in St John's, said Boje would not play in the upcoming five-match one-day series unless his condition improved.
"We shall exercise caution by not playing him until his condition is determined to be otherwise," the statement quoted Lorgat as saying.
The first two matches in the one-day series will be played in Kingston, Jamaica, on Sunday and Monday (NZ time).
