Rain was the dominant figure as only a limited amount of balls were hit in anger in the national domestic T20 competition today.
Northern Districts won the toss and elected to bowl in their clash with Otago at the University Oval in Dunedin and in between a rain-interrupted innings the home side posted 77-5 from 12 overs.
Black Cap Brendon McCullum cracked 32 from 26 balls at the top of the order, while Northern Districts' spinner Anton Devcich picked up 3-23 from four overs opening the bowling.
The poor weather meant that there was time for only 12 overs for Otago as the match was reduced and Northern had to chase 82 from 11 overs to win as the vagaries of the Duckworth-Lewis method came to the fore.
The conditions only allowed for six balls to be bowled as Northern managed to hit six runs from a James McMillan over and lose the wicket of Tim Southee, who opened the batting and the bowling for ND, before bad light stopped play and the game was abandoned.
