KEY POINTS:
After a night of celebrations following their huge win over Sri Lanka, Ricky Ponting's Australians will travel to Hobart today to prepare for the second Test beginning on Friday.
Test cricket's top-ranked side adjusted to the retirements of star trio Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne and Justin Langer without missing a beat.
Debutant paceman Mitchell Johnson, leg-spinner Stuart MacGill and opener Phil Jaques all played starring roles in the win by an innings and 40 runs with almost two full sessions to spare on yesterday's fifth day's play at the Gabba.
Ponting admitted the transition to the new era had gone smoothly, generating Australia's 13th consecutive Test win, second only to the Steve Waugh captained 16 victories in 1999-2001.
Both sides are expected to resume training in Hobart on Wednesday and Thursday, with today set aside as a travel day.
"We can't get too carried away with that (win) though. It's one very good performance at the start of the summer," Ponting said.
"But nothing has really surprised me from the guys who have come into the team for this game. Jaques and Johnson played the way that we knew that they could play.
"I thought Stuart MacGill bowled better than his figures (1-79 and 1-64) indicated as well.
"And Brett Lee (with eight wickets) led the attack very well and thoroughly deserved his man-of-the-match award."
