Australian fast bowler Michael Kasprowicz took a five-wicket haul to end a defiant rearguard batting effort from Pakistan's tail late on day two of the first cricket test at the WACA Ground.
Pakistan were dismissed for 179 in reply to Australia's first innings 381, but despite being in a position to enforce the follow-on, the home side opted to bat again with a 202-run lead.
Australia were 15 without loss in their second innings at stumps.
Kasprowicz took five for 30 ended a frustrating tailend effort by Pakistan's bowlers when Mohammad Sami on 29 skied the ball to deep backward point, where Michael Clarke took an excellent running catch.
Sami and Shoaib Akhtar put on 60 for the ninth wicket to deny Australia for 105 minutes after the tourists slumped to 111 for eight.
In frustration, Australian captain Ricky Ponting bowled both himself and part-time spinner Darren Lehmann in an effort to break the stand, which was finally ended when Glenn McGrath had Shoaib caught at slip for 27 with the score on 171.
Australia were all out for 381 early today, with opener Justin Langer the last man out for 191.
Shoaib claimed five for 99, his first five-wicket haul in this country.
But that joy could be short-lived, as the paceman could be fined for giving Australian opener Matthew Hayden a send-off.
Shoaib will go before a hearing with match referee Ranjan Madugalle after the close of play today and could be docked part of his match fee if found guilty of a conduct breach.
Pakistan lost their way with the bat with some appalling shots in the second session, when Younis Khan and Abdul Razzaq threw their wickets away to Warne in successive overs.
The pair had steadied the innings with a 48-run stand, but with the score on 108, Younis had a rush of blood and tried to heave Warne over mid-wicket.
But he only succeeded in skying the ball to mid-on on 42, where Jason Gillespie took a safe catch.
In Warne's next over, Razzaq danced down the wicket and played across the line to be bowled middle stump for 21.
Their dismissals were the first of a collapse of four for three before Sami and Shoaib showed more resistance.
Kasprowicz had Australia on top early, when he dismissed opener Salman Butt for 17 and Pakistan's mainstays, Yousuf Youhana and Inzamam-ul-Haq, both for one.
Gillespie took the first wicket of the innings, when he had Imran Farhat caught down the legside for 18.
