Otago are the only unbeaten team in the Twenty20 cricket competition through two rounds after a 14-run defeat of Auckland at Eden Park Outer Oval yesterday.
Wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins struck 47 for the southerners and Chris Gaffaney 43 on the way to an impressive 181 for seven.
Auckland were always just off the pace in their chase, despite 75 from Richard Jones who was dismissed in the final over, one of three run out victims.
Auckland were eventually restricted to 167 for eight.
In the other match yesterday, Canterbury beat Wellington by nine wickets in Christchurch.
