Promising West Indies fast bowler Jason Holder has been recruited by Otago Cricket for the domestic T20 final in Hamilton on Saturday.
Defending champions Otago, who qualified top and therefore got direct entry to the final, have lost New Zealand internationals Brendon and Nathan McCullum, Jesse Ryder and Jimmy Neesham, and have fast-medium Ian Butler recovering from injury and needed to bolster their bowling department.
"Jason was keen to be involved," Otago Cricket chief executive Ross Dykes said.
"He has IPL experience and is obviously bowling fit as a result of the current series."
Holder has played for Barbados and the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and has made a favourable impression on the West Indies tour of New Zealand.
In 35 T20 games, he has taken 29 wickets at an economy rate of 7.33 runs per over.
Should Otago beat either Canterbury or Northern Districts in the final, Holder would be available for their second trip to the Champions League later this year.
